If you are flying to Cancun from Canada, the short answer is Terminal 4. Air Canada, WestJet, Porter, Flair, Air Transat and Sunwing all arrive at T4 at Cancun International Airport, and a pre-booked driver meets you at the Welcome Bar. The one that catches people out is Sun Country, which lands at Terminal 3 — it is a US carrier, so it is grouped with American and Delta, and the meeting point there is the Margaritaville Bar instead.

Below is the full list by airline, what to do if you come out at the wrong terminal, and how the late arrivals from Toronto and Montreal actually work.

Cancun airport terminals by airline

Terminal 1 handles private aviation only, so no scheduled arrival will ever put you there. Our airport terminals page carries the complete airline list for each one.

Terminal 4 is the Canadian terminal

Almost every flight from Canada lands at T4. Toronto Pearson, Montreal-Trudeau, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Halifax all feed into it, on Air Canada, WestJet, Porter, Flair, Air Transat and Sunwing. Aeromexico and most of the European carriers — Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, Virgin Atlantic, TAP, Condor — use T4 as well, which is why it can feel busy at midday when the transatlantic and Canadian banks land within an hour of each other.

T4 has its own ground transportation zone. Once you are through customs and out of the arrivals doors, the Welcome Bar is the landmark to walk toward. Full detail, including photos of the meeting point, is on our Terminal 4 page.

Sun Country is the exception: Terminal 3

This is the one worth reading twice, because it is the only airline in the Canadian-and-northern-US cluster that does not use T4. Sun Country’s Cancun flights, including the Minneapolis–St. Paul services, arrive at Terminal 3, the terminal built around US carriers. The meeting point at Terminal 3 is the Margaritaville Bar, in the same ground transportation area.

Travellers connecting through a US hub trip on this regularly: the flight feels Canadian, the terminal is not. If your final leg is operated by a US airline, plan for T3.

If your flight is with Viva Aerobus, Volaris, Alaska, LATAM or another Mexican or Latin American carrier, you will come out at Terminal 2, where the meeting point is also the Welcome Bar.

Terminals do change — the honest version

Airline-to-terminal assignments are stable, but they are not permanent. Airlines move between terminals when the airport reshuffles gates, and charter-heavy winter schedules move more often than year-round ones. Two things to do about it:

Check your boarding pass and your airline’s app on the day. That is the authoritative source for your specific flight, and it beats any list on the internet, including this one.

Book with someone who tracks the aircraft, not the schedule. We monitor the actual flight, so the driver goes where your plane goes — a terminal change on the day is our problem to solve, not yours.

And if you do walk out of the wrong doors: the terminals are too far apart to walk between, but the airport runs a free inter-terminal shuttle. Take it, and message us on WhatsApp so we can move the pickup. It costs you a few minutes, nothing more.

Where your driver waits, and who to ignore

Terminals 2 and 4 meet at the Welcome Bar. Terminal 3 meets at the Margaritaville Bar. Both are in the ground transportation area, past the exit doors. Your driver wears company identification and holds a sign with your name.

Before you reach them you will pass a corridor of people offering rides and tours. If someone approached you first, you do not have a booking with them — legitimate operators wait at the named meeting point with your name in hand. Night arrivals from Toronto and Montreal

The evening departures out of eastern Canada land in Cancun late, often after 10 PM, and a delay of an hour turns a late arrival into a small-hours one. It is safe, and it is routine — but ask one question of any operator before you book: what happens to the price if the delay is theirs, not yours.

Our answer, so you have it in daylight: we track your flight and wait up to one hour after actual landing at no charge, and longer if you reply to our WhatsApp message so we can see where you are in the customs queue. An arrival that falls into night hours, between 10 PM and 6 AM, carries a 50% surcharge. That is a real cost and we would rather you read it here than hear it at two in the morning.

From the terminal to where you are staying

Door-to-door times in normal traffic, from any of the terminals:

• Cancun Hotel Zone — 20 to 30 minutes
• Costa Mujeres and Playa Mujeres — 40 to 55 minutes
• Puerto Morelos — 25 to 35 minutes
• Playa del Carmen — 50 to 65 minutes
• Tulum — 90 to 110 minutes, longer for the beach road hotels

Above five or six people, or with golf clubs and strollers in the mix, look at group transportation rather than two vehicles.
